The ultimate goal of our research is to develop technology that helps to enable a shift of our carbon resource from fossil non-renewables (crude oil, natural gas and coal) to renewable biomass in form of agricultural and forestry byproducts such as corn stover, straws, wood chips and bark, etc.

About my research…

The Schlaf Research Group aims to develop new homo- and heterogeneous catalysts and processes for the conversion of sugars, such as xylose and glucose obtained from the hydrolysis of ligno-cellulosic biomass, to value-added chemicals, such as polymer components, solvents, pharmaceutical precursors and high-energy density fuels.
