Information for Referees

Difficulty Accessing the Referee Assessment

You may be experiencing difficulty accessing the online Referee Assessment form. Please contact the Office of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies directly at gradapps@uoguelph.ca.  To find out  when the referee assessment is due, please connect with the applicant as each program and application deadline varies.

Academic vs Professional References

While many areas of the Referee Assessment form refer to an academic setting, the ranking criteria and any comment area can be completed by both academic or professional referees. Please select the 'Not Applicable' option on any areas of the form that do not apply to you.

All information that is submitted in the referee assessment is confidential and will not be released to the applicant.

Signature Requirements

If you are completing an online Referee Assessment form, or submitting the form via email, a signature is not required.

If you are unable to complete an online Referee Assessment form and are required to submit it via mail, then you are required to:

  • sign the form
  • seal it in an envelop
  • sign across the back of the flap of the envelop

Acceptable Email Addresses

Ideally we ask that referees supply their institutional or organizational email addresses.

The University of Guelph reserves the right to contact any referee to verify authenticity of the information provided on the Referee Assessment form.
