Other Thoughts…

Graduate studies at the University of Guelph is supportive, innovative and dynamic.

Program(s)

Political Science and International Development, PhD

How my Research will Improve Life…

My research is on the role of social support networks on post-disaster recovery in the Philippines. It has helped to inform affected communities and humanitarian NGOs of the significance of having a better understand of the role of social support networks so humanitarian assistance can be better channelled.

Why I Chose Guelph…

I choose to complete my graduate studies at the University of Guelph because I completed my undergraduate studies here and enjoyed it so much I had to come back. The sense of community that the University cultivates is like no other campus. At the University of Guelph, you feel like you belong, and you will be supported academically, professionally and personally.

About My Advisor…

I have an excellent relationship with my advisor. He was the professor who initially inspired me to pursue graduate studies in Oxford and I am happy to come back to do my PhD under him.

About the City of Guelph…

I love living in Guelph because it is so lively and friendly. The downtown is vibrant and full of innovation. The City is growing and diverse. You feel safe in Guelph and there is always something going on in our community. The activist community is also very active, which fosters a strong sense of civic responsibility among its population.

Being a Graduate Student at Guelph…

Bring a graduate student in Guelph is enjoyable. There are many workshops, lectures and resources for you to take advantage of, to help you continue your academic growth.

My Future Plans…

I plan to continue in academia as a professor and to continue to contribute impactful research and share knowledge with young people. It is my goal to inspire them to reach their potential and contribute to a better world.

About Campus…

The constant buzz of student energy is my favourite part of the Guelph Campus. There is always a fundraiser for a charity, a petition to sign, an open mic to listen to, or a campaign underway to help those less fortunate. The student body here is bursting with energy and love for our fellow students, the community and the wider globe. You truly feel a part of a wider community.

About My Program…

My department organizes a Speaker Series, which brings in experts to share knowledge on a diversity of topics.

About Financial Support…

I got a strong funding package from my department that included guaranteed TAships for every semester for all 4 years and more.
