The Graduate Career Workshop series is a collaboration between the Office Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, the College of Social and Applied Human Science, and the Experiential Learning Hub.

 

Career Exploration

This workshop is designed to help you use a problem-based approach to uncover your passions, values, and potential careers. This highly interactive workshop will help you explore a diversity of careers within and outside academia. It is recommended for all Master's, Doctoral, and Postdoctoral Fellows who are struggling to identify their next steps.

 

Networking with Linkedin and Informational Interviews

According to a Linkedin article, approximately 85% of jobs are filled through networking. Let the University of Guelph's career experts guide you in best networking practices to increase your chances of securing your dream job. During this interactive workshop, you will explore Linkedin, locate jobs of interest, identify mentors in your career field, formulate an invitation email and questions for an informational interview.

 

CVs and Resumes

When you're on the academic job market it is appropriate to use a CV when applying to jobs. However, if you are searching for a career outside academia, you should submit a resume. Understanding the differences between these two documents is essential to your career application success. After learning about the difference between the two documents, you will learn how to write strong accomplishment statements and effectively translate your skills to future employers. Bring you CV and/or resume to this workshop and you will leave with a revised document.
