Why I chose Guelph...
A major reason for my choice to complete graduate studies at the University of Guelph was the community-engaged research happening through researchers here on campus in collaboration with members of the community. I have a deep appreciation for research that is wanted by those who are actually on the front lines of a field.
About the campus...
The campus is beautiful. Take the time to explore before getting totally immersed in your program; you never know when you will need a change of scenery to liven up your writing or a walk to refresh your soul. It is good to have a few locations tucked away in your back pocket for when the need arises. Never lose your sense of wonder.
How will my work Improve Life?
My research project has given youth the chance to share about their experience of transitioning back into the community after attending residential programming for mental health and/or behavioural disorders. Their stories help build understanding and empathy in listeners and lay the groundwork for improved support systems for youth who experience this transition.
My future plans...
While I do not yet have a specific plan, I intend to continue working in the child and youth mental health sector. My time at UoG has provided me with the opportunity to deepen my understanding of the field and begin exploring many different ways in which I might engage with this work.
