A bit about your research...
In our group, we study the structure, dynamics, and function of intracellular protein degradation systems. Our research lies at the interface of biochemistry, structural biology, biophysics, and bioanalytical chemistry. Some of the tools that we use in the lab are biomolecular mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance, and electron cryomicroscopy.
How will your research help to "Improve Life"?
Protein turnover is a core homeostatic process essential in all organisms. Many of the intracellular proteolysis systems we study are implicated in human health and disease (e.g. tuberculosis and cancer) and are therefore important drug targets. Our research allows us to rationally design inhibitors and activators.
