Why I Chose Guelph…
The University of Guelph has the top program in Canada for Landscape Architecture. The program is accredited and allowed me to pursue professional work as a licensed Landscape Architect.
About My Advisor…
Graduate school can be overwhelming at times and having someone that believed in me as much as my advisor did makes the biggest difference. I would not have the same level of confidence in myself as I do, if it were not for my advisor. Anyone can teach about design principles, but it was the countless hours devoted to the students outside of the class, and making sure each of us had the skills to succeed in our careers and our lives, that sets them apart. I feel so privileged that I had the opportunity to have them as my teacher and mentor during my time as a graduate student.
About the City of Guelph…
The size, for sure. The scale of the city is very friendly and manageable. It is a nice escape from big city life but still located in such a convenient spot in Southern Ontario that allows me to pursue opportunities in the GTA if they arise. It is the best of both worlds.
Being a Graduate Student at Guelph…
There is a sense of community and camaraderie in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development. The faculties encourage and foster relationships between one another, better equipping me to work with multidisciplinary teams of people when I pursue a professional career after school. Graduate school can be intimidating and stressful, but knowing that I have a community of people there to support me makes it a little less scary.
My Future Plans…
I would like to pursue a career as a licensed Landscape Architect. The faculty have given me the tools I need to succeed academically, professionally, and personally, both during school, after graduation, and far into the future.
About Campus…
The Arboretum is such a great addition to the campus and provides an extra dimension of teaching that textbook pictures just cannot achieve. Having a secondary classroom like the Arboretum is amazing!
