How my Research will Improve Life...

My research on travel literature, and especially about immigration experiences of Asian women settling in North America, offers a space for minority voices to be heard and allows representation that is otherwise lacking in various streams of thought.

Why I Chose Guelph…

I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree here at the University of Guelph and decided to return for a number of reasons. I met many faculty members here, who have research that aligned with my research interested in graduate studies. I also wanted to continue in the Peer Helper Program with the Office of Intercultural Affairs. Not only did I want to maintain close ties with the international community here in Guelph, but also wanted to continue learning and applying skills in becoming a leader and ally.

My Future Plans…

I plan to move to Germany for about a year to explore a few parts of Europe. I do not have a definitive plan about what I will do there, but the exchange that I did in my undergrad taught me that uncertainty does not have to be feared. It is through this experience – which was provided to me by the University of Guelph - that my mind opened up to new horizons. I learned that knowledge isn't just found in the classroom, but also out in the world.

About Financial Support…

My department provided me with two Graduate Teaching Assistantships and a College of Arts Graduate Scholarship – these opportunities have helped me tremendously.

Other Thoughts…
